The Walvis Bay municipality has announced that a book titled ‘Walvis Bay: Coming of Age’ will be launched at the first council meeting in January and will be available from the municipality at a cost of N$280. The visually striking book consisting of six chapters and 216 glossy pages was produced to showcase the harbour town’s role in Namibia’s past, present and future.
It offers a historical journey of the town since its integration into Namibia in 1994 and contains striking photos by renowned photographer Jay Roode and others.
“Come and explore the story of Walvis Bay. We describe why Walvis Bay is such a unique place, share what has changed in the past 21 years and celebrate what the town has to offer.
Founding Father Dr Sam Nujoma resolutely refused to set foot on Walvis Bay’s soil until the port city was united with the rest of Namibia. We tell you how it all came about and believe me, it’s a fascinating story,” former mayor Uillika Nambahu wrote in the foreword. OTIS FINCK
